Using INDEX command to put contours on layers

I've created contours at 0.1 metre intervals using a DTM of roughly 175,000 points. I'd like to place each contour on its own layer so that we can isolate that layer and compare the contour to other data. I'm trying to use the INDEX command to do this, and I enter the elevation of the contour that I...

MSCAD 2005 license transfer

I've been in the process of switching over to a new laptop (from a desktop PC), and have run into problems transferring my license over to the laptop. For a while, I've been attempting to check out the license from my desktop PC for overnight or weekend use, something that I've done many times in th...

I should have clarified - I'm using the Take Home option, not checking the license out. I just remove the default "0", stick in a "1", and follow the rest of the prompts, so there's no issue with entering the wrong date. I've done it many times in the past with no problems, and the license expires a...

Checking out my licence overnight

After setting up MSCAD 2005 SP1.3 on a new Dell PC (at home), I've found that I cannot get my checked-out licence (from work) to work at home. I've done this in the past many times, but I've recently had to re-install MSCAD 2005 both at home and at work. I've generated the register.txt file several ...

OK, I finally got it to work - I thought I had fully disabled my antivirus and firewall (both from Comodo) before installing, and even afterwards when I tried to run MSCAD, but perhaps not. When I told my firewall explicitly that it was OK to run MSCAD (and any associated files), it finally worked. ...

No luck - my userid is a local admin, and I get the same result when logged in as the Administrator user.

Just as a test, I downloaded and installed the v2008 demo - works without a hitch, of course!

I don't think it's a licence issue - I never get that far. I should be able to run 2005 in demo mode, for as long as I want, I think. A second after I double-click the MSCAD2005 icon, I get the "access is denied" message - nothing to do with the licence. I should be able to install MSCAD at home, us...

No luck with the downloaded version either. I tried this same version on an older PC I have at home - no problems installing and running in demo mode there. Any other thoughts?

MSCAD 2005 fresh install - "access denied"

I've replaced my home PC (was XP Pro SP2) with a new one running XP Home SP2 recently, and installed MSCAD 2005 on it so that I've be able to check out my work licence from time to time and do some work at home. However, when I try to run MSCAD, all I get is an error message that pops up saying "Acc...

Entering bearings in COGO command

We just ran across an issue here in our office where we found out that MSCAD 2005 will accept bearings that "don't make sense", essentially. One of our technicians entered a bearing with 65', rather than 5', and MSCAD accepted the value, rounded the degrees up by one, and changed the minutes to 5' -...

Of course, it all makes sense now :-). We usually only scale from imperial to metric if we've COGO'd in a plan in imperial, and Z values don't come into play then.

Thanks,

RTS - error in scaling Z from imperial to metric?

We recently noticed in a job that, in the process of scaling a set of points in imperial to metric (using RTS), that the Z-coordinates of the points were not scaled correctly. I've attached a portion of the log file showing the RTS details and the information on two of the points. We performed a rot...

MSCAD 2005 - lines and points don't coincide

We're working with a new drawing that was started in MSCAD 2005 SP3 a couple of months ago. We've imported a few more shots from some additional field work, and have drawn lines between them using the COGO command and the Connect_points command. When we turn on the IPN and the point layer, and zoom ...

I had this problem as well. On one of my drawings, zooming extents still wouldn't allow me to save, but if I zoomed out even further (so that my drawing only took up perhaps 20% of the screen area), I could save OK.

Toolbar buttons don't stick down when turned on

We've recently created a set of custom toolbars for use in our office, and distributed them to each PC running MSCAD 2005 here. On my PC, I note now that my snaps and grips toolbar buttons don't appear "down" when they are activated, as they normally did. The commands work OK, but the buttons are al...

Disappearing log file?

We have another user here in our office who is using MSCAD 2005. He had spent a few weeks on one large plan, and consequently his log file was fairly large (compared to most of our log files). One day he went to open the log file, and was asked the standard question: "File does not exist, create a n...

Convert NAD83 to NAD83 (CSRS)?

I'm looking for a web site/downloadable software package that I can use to convert NAD83 coordinates into NAD83 (CSRS). Or, can Microsurvey do this for me? I need to convert a set of monument coordinates for a NRCan job we're doing, but can't seem to find anything to do this for me.

Thanks,

No, we haven't noticed any kind of pattern - it's happening in different drawing files, and with different commands preceding this behaviour. If it happens again we'll copy that file and send it off to you or Glen.

MSCAD 2005 ignores commands

We've run into this situation multiple times now on two different PCs - once on the first PC, and 5 or 6 times on a second PC. Both are running fully patched versions of Windows XP Pro, with SP1.3 applied to MSCAD. At any given time, MSCAD will start to ignore commands, whether typed or chosen from ...

I've installed a copy of MSCAD 2005 onto a fully-patched Win98SE PC, and entered the registration codes. Log file page margins?

Is there a way to set the log file's margin's in MSCAD 2005? It seems like a minor annoyance, but it would be nice for them to default to 0.5 instead of 0.7 - then we can get much more on one page, and it makes the results more readable.

Get Lat/Long from UTM coordinates?

In MSCAD2002, is there any way to generate Latitudes and Longitudes for the monuments that I have UTM coordinates for?
