DXF import points and blocks

Just installed 2012 for a test run. Disappointed that FG can only use points in imported dxf's and not blocks.

Re: User defined Mercator Transversal system

It's sounds like you want to be using the GPS to local transformation option. This will allow you to tie gps derived coordinates to existing ground control values or vise versa.

Re: Geoid wishes...

Thanks, Brian. Regretably, we are still at 3.2.0 because of some unfixed bugs in later versions. Now I REALLY want those data bugs corrected!

Geoid wishes...

NGS is publishing NAVD88(2009) values.

It would be nice to have the option for various NAVD88 geoids in field genius instead of constantly needing to convert to tie into old control nets.

CF card GPS for NEMA input into FG

Just a quick recommendation for all FG users.... For a total investment of about $70 you can add a compact flash gps card for WAAS-enabled positioning directly from your data collector. It's perfect for reconnaissance or trying to relocate monuments, etc. without lugging around your whole rover rig ...

FG2010 and deleting attribute data

The last couple releases of FG have had a bug that remains unresolved in FG2010. When a point with attribute data is deleted, the corresponding attribute data is not deleted. When the shot number repeats, the "old" attributes are attached to the new shot. The relationship between a shot and its attr...

Problem solved. Rare crash that left the final record of the figure database incomplete. Filled in the blanks and opens fine.

I don' t think there is any way to get a world file directly from GE. Maybe the pro version but not the free appliation. If you have ACAD Civil you can import a georeferenced image from GE. If you want georeferenced photos, check out http://seamless.usgs.gov/index.php or http://terraserver-usa.com/ ...

That's hard to say. It would depend on what type of work you routinely do. My work is archaeological mapping, which make the attribute data extremely important and shackles me to certain data collection and processing techniques. I have to use shapefiles. With that said, if I were doing straight eni...

Yes, FG has functionality with Civil. You can export from FG in Fieldbook (.fbk), Land XML, or shapefiles for import into Civil. It doesn't suit my needs, but the syncing relationship of .fbk between FG and Civil would seem very effective for most engineering/surveying purposes. I have a previous po...

You are correct. I thought this is the direction you were going. No, you cannot link the coordinate and attribute data and generate a combined table directly from FG. I use FG for archaeological mapping, which requires that the data collection be GIS-enabled. I've had to develop pretty commplex mean...

I'm not sure I entirely understand your question.

Using a shapefile export is the only way to utilize/exchange coordinate and attribute data across non-Microsurvey software platforms like ACAD.

If you can give me a better idea of what you are trying to do, I can provide addtional information.

Who is using ACAD blocks in Field Genius .dxf???

Anyone else other than myself using .dxf files containing ACAD blocks within Field Genius?

I'm very disappointed that the FG 4.0.1 release no longer supports the use of blocks within a .dxf. It still supports ACAD points, but that doesn't help my block-driven mapping.

Thanks for all the good info on multiple posts, Jason. To answer your questions: 1) the total project area is about 800m x 800 m 2) vectors between controls range from about 200 to 400 m 3) yes, a static gps control net has been established; I am tying to someone else's control net and have establis...

gps geodetic values to planar elevations

I'm stumped on the easy way to do this. I can work flat and I can work curved, but how to I put the two together? I'm tied into a gps network. H is based on gps values, V is derived from leveling. How do I get my gps elevation to jive with the level? Not sure the right, easist way to deal with this ...

Here's my problem.... I'm needing to model the horizon at a given location. I want to setup my total station, orient to north, then shoot the HA and VA of the local horizon around the circle. So, I don't want coordinate values persay but somehow I want an azimuth and a vertical angle recorded to mod...

I agree with Steve. I love the emulator, but I has quirks as he as described. Particularly the screen resolution, overlapping push botton/options etc. Further another anoyance is mouse speed is retarded in the application. You end up needed to go all the way across the screen back and forth, but FG ...
