FIELDGENIUS FUTURE

Postby Richard Sands » Sat Aug 09, 2008 8:22 pm

Has anyone looked at this suite of data collection?
http://www.penmap.com
Food for thought for FieldGenius?
I think the future of data collection is in the true GIS arena where we can collect data and add attributes to ALL information - points, linework etc.
There's plenty of choices for GPS side of collection with GIS attributes, but a complete survey collection system? - the ground is pretty thin.
What does MicroSurvey think of this side of collection?

GIS it...

FG is ready to take over the market on sub-centimeter gis data collection.

Do it.

Stop making me work so hard to make it happen.

That aside, great product, gang.

I looked at it years ago. It's come a ways. I'll test this out and give you an opinion.

More GIS support will be coming in the future, the popular feature request is to have the ability to store attributes on figures. That would be the first thing we would probably add next when we decide to add some more GIS tools.

No time frame yet .....

FG AND ATTRIBUTES

Postby Richard Sands » Mon Aug 11, 2008 11:53 pm

gday Jason
Why not just get stuck into it - and give us the option for Points,Lines and Figures.
This really is the way of the future and yet the future is with us right now.
There's ways to handle GPS data and attributes, but the Total Station side is saddly lacking.
Someone somewhere said Carlson offers it on linewrok - not sure if thats true.
I posed this question on Manifold Forum and its obvious there isn't anything to cover this - unless PenMap aside.
It is a real pain and a complete waste of time when doing surveys that need to end up in GIS format to locate data with FG, bring the survey into CAD then GIS when it should be able to be all done in FG on the fly , so to speak.
Also less room for error.
Is this an opportunity begging? (My old dad would say - just get on with it lad and don't muck about.)

On the attribute side - we really need to be able to set this up in the field - shouldn't have to do it on the PC and then transfer to data recorder.
regards
Richard
