Angle and distance offset info

Postby ergols1727 » Tue Mar 23, 2004 8:22 am

We've looked at the log.txt file and the raw data file for some of our jobs and we don't see the raw information that was entered in the field to create either the angle offset or the distance offset when measuring a point indirectly. This means we don't have a record of the actual angle and/or distance measured in the field. The program appears to be processing the offset information given in the field and then discarding(?) the raw data. Is there a way that we can retrieve this information? We've got some odd looking house configurations and we suspect that the offset was entered incorrectly but we can't confirm that with the field crew that did the work because we can't see the actual measurement information. Where is it?

This has been updated and will be in the next version of FieldGenius.

Offset function doesn't work?

Postby cbunker » Thu Apr 08, 2004 6:34 pm

This sounds like the problem we've just discovered this week with the FG software. Our crew takes an offset shot, enters the angle and distance as prompted, but the resulting point that is recorded appears to be located where the prism was, not at the offset point. Our houses are looking a little funny as well!

Jason - you mentioned that this has been updated and will be available in the next version of FG - there's no patch planned for FG 2.0.x? Anyone know of a workaround for this? We find the offset function quite useful, and it would be a shame not to have it available.

Hi Chris,

The angle offset routine works correctly in FieldGenius 2.0. The current version only stores the computed observation which is made up of your angle and distance measurements.

What I was referring to, is that the next version will write all information to the raw file including the original two observations, plus the computed one.

Jason,

I just checked with our field guys - apparently our problem is with the distance offsets - they haven't used the angle offset function yet.

Any ideas?
