Join 3D Polylines

Postby K Burrill » Sat Feb 15, 2003 10:56 am

In MSCAD2002 can you join two 3D Polylines (each 3D pline has verticies at different elevations) ? The "polyedit" commond does not give the "join" option when selecting a 3D Polyline.

3D Polylines

There is no single command to join to 3D Polylines together. However, if the two 3D Polylines actually meet at the one end, at exactly the same 3D coordinate, then a trick may help you.

I just did it here and it worked for me.

1) To make it easier, make it so that only those two 3D Polylines are the only things on screen. (Freeze all other layers).
2) Run the Explode command on both of the 3D Polylines. This breaks them up into many line segments. Now you have many short line segments all run together.
3) Now you need to rejoin them all together into one 3D Polyline. To do so, run the POLYEDIT command (under the Modify menu -> Edit Polyline -> Edit Entire Polyline).
When asked:
Select a 2D polyline: <- Pick the end of one of the lines
It will detect that it is not a polyline and ask:
Transform line to polyline ? <- Answer YES
Then you will be asked to:
Select option: <- From the Option bar pick on JOIN
Now you will be asked:
Select entity (line, arc, 2D polyline): <- Window ALL of the line segments that are to form the new 3D Polyline.

You should now have one 3D Polyline, assuming that all of the line segments are abutting.
