Does anyone have any suggestions for the most efficent way to use model space and paper space regarding linework & text. Should paper space be only used for your title block & notes? :?:

Layout Mode (Paper Space) was originally designed for final output to paper of a drawing. It permits each viewport to have a different zoom ratio with layers either frozen or thawed in each viewport (and different from the layers frozen in Model Space). Those viewports would be inside of a title block, designed for your paper size, and would normally be plotted at 1:1. Text placed in Model Space would be at whatever size was appropriate based upon the drawing scale. Layout Mode would not change the heights of the text but if the viewport zoom ratio did not match the drawing scale from Model Space, then the text may not be at a desired height in the viewport. Not much can be done about that except place 2 strings of text in Model space, on 2 different layers, at 2 different heights, and control which one was shown via the layer settings in the viewport.

Text added directly in Layout Mode should be added at a drawing scale of 1, so the heights would be correct on paper.

Some people may use it for other reasons, but that is the origin of the whole process.

PAPER SPACE

Postby Richard Sands » Tue Jun 13, 2006 12:40 pm

theres no resason you can't add text over the view you have in Layout Mode. But if you change the scale or positioning of the drawing in layout Mode then the text wont fit over the model space entities displayed in paper space where they were intended. That may not always be easily recoginsed until too late - Gone to plot. I rarely type text over the model space entities in Layout Mode for this reason. As Glen says it may be necessary to have 2 text layers at differing scale. This is easy to do in 2005 where one can select by properties and copy and paste etc. regards Richard
