Need for Custom Install Script

Postby getrsurveyed » Wed Aug 05, 2009 6:09 am

This constant upgrade thing is getting old. Default directorys are changed
up each version and a lot of time is wasted trying to get the program to
look and feel like the last version. I always try to keep a folder far away
from MicroSurvey folders that holds all my custom config files.. or at least
all of them I know about.. but its still a mess

Why not provide us with a custom script that runs on install that would
prompt for any custom files you have.. the user could browse to the folder
and let the program install them in the proper place. Include everything..
templates, menus, toolbars, upload/download locations, automap files,
blocks .. many more Im sure. Then also store them all in a folder.. say,
"My Custom Files 2010" never to be touched again by the program along
with a txt file listing of all the program locations.

I'm sure this would help encourage more people to upgrade ... I dread
it. I could do this in VB but the object model is not provided and I don't
know LISP.

Looking for a little help..

Hi Steven,

Thanks for the suggestion - this is something we can consider for the next update. You're right, it will make upgrading easier for everybody which also results in fewer tech support issues for us. Win-Win!

In the meantime, we do maintain the following knowledgebase article in our online Helpdesk, which describes how to transfer your customizations over when upgrading to 2010.
