Offset 2d Polyline with short lines

Postby Donna Benko » Mon Jan 11, 2010 1:04 pm

When I try to offset a 2d polyline with short lines it does not work properly and I have to do the offset manually and trim the lines in order to hatch a building which is very labour intensive in some cases.

Is there anything I can do to make the offset work like it did in MS2004?

Hi, There is a known issue with offsetting polylines, however offsetting lwpolylines (lightweight polylines) works properly. You can convert all the polylines to lwpolylines by typing plinetype and set the value to 2. then save, close, and reopen your drawing. Functionally, a polyline and a lwpolyline are the same, but lwpolylines are just stored more efficiently in the drawing. Because of this, you may find that your dwg files get smaller especially if they are quite large drawings with a lot of polylines.
