unstable with images

Postby DaveS » Mon Feb 15, 2010 2:13 pm

Is anyone able to tell me why 2009 SP1 is so unstable when a TIFF image is attached to the drawing. I know that 2005 was way more stable. Is there any plans on a fix for this instability.

MicroSurvey CAD 2009 did have a lot of stability issues in its IntelliCAD 6.5 engine that were resolved in the 2010 version which is based on the newer IntelliCAD 6.6 engine. Generally speaking, 2010 is far more stable than 2009, and I would definitely recommend updating from 2009 to 2010 if you have a current maintenance subscription.

However, I will admit that the raster engine used in 2010 is still not perfect but it is a step forward from 2009.

If you aren't on a current maintenance subscription, you can still download a 30-day demo copy of 2010 from our Helpdesk to check it out, you may find that the problems you have with 2009 are eliminated.

Dave as Brian said there are sone stability issues.
If you just want to upgrade to see an improvement in this area then I'd suggest you do as Brian said and try the demo.
You can run that independantly.
As Brian well knows my grief with every version of MSCAD for last few years have been somewhat harrowing - to me and to them
Personally I wouldn't get it if that is all you are after. But that said , as Brian did - it has improved until it crashes ie.

I've had the same problem with all versions including the current 2010.
I use raster images in the TIFF format with just about every job I do,
sometimes up to a dozen of the 5000' square TIFF's in one job.

I have found that by turning off my RASTER layer and unloading each file
I can work without crashing. This is cumbersome but it has worked for me
as I don't need the images "turned on" all the time. This was a suggestion
from MS support. Hopefully the Icad engine will be fixed in the next version ..

As far as 2009 vs 2010 on stability with rasters .. I think its a wash
