Cannot access objects in AutoCAD file

Post by jhcooley » Wed Nov 20, 2013 4:48 pm

I have been given an AutoCAD file which has polylines and various other objects that are visible, but which cannot be selected, queried, edited, etc. I thought they might be proxies, but setting the PROXYSHOW system variable to zero and regenerating does not affect their visibility.

I have saved the file to AutoCAD 12, which doesn't seem to have any effect.

The problem is present in both MSCAD 2010 and 2013.

Is this caused by something obvious that I'm just too stupid to figure out? Does anyone know anything about this?

Is the layer locked?

Not according to the Layer Explorer.

Also, AUDIT did not indicate any errors.

I will ask the source to save as an AutoCAD 12 file directly from his CAD program (the one I have I converted with MicroSurvey) and re-send it. MS 2013 should be able to handle it, but obviously something is fishy. He is running something besides AutoCAD with an AutoCAD engine, so who knows??

I've encountered AutoCAD objects that MS couldn't handle before, but this is the first time so much of the drawing has been inaccessible.

Thanks for the help, anyway.
