Perpendicular distance

I've been checking this graphically for so long that I've forgotten how to calculate it with COGO without creating a new point, meaning that I want to know the perp. distance from point 1 to the line created by points 2 and 3.

In COGO, type in the following:

Inverse:Pt..Pt/Curve Inverse:Pt..Pt..Pt
Enter From Point: <1>2..3..1

Three point inverse between 2 , 3 , 1
Baseline : 646.386 Offset : -123.927
Angle Right: 27.1603 Angle Left : 332.4357
Distance from 2..3 = 886.824
Distance from 3..1 = 270.497

In my example, it measured from point 2 to 3 as the baseline with the perpendicular measurement to point 1. You will get the above output in the command line and a dialog on screen, showing the same information.

Perpendicular Offsets

I find the routine'PERP_TIES' works much better for a lot of points.
Its found under Microsurvey - Ties/Leaders/Symbols - Multiple Perpendicular Ties. The output can be used to report on as many offsets as wanted - a nice routine.
A COGO command could be added where it 'locks' on the first 2 points defining the line and then all is required is the typing of a new point ad infinitum (or however its spelled).
Not sure whether you were familiar with that?
