is there an easy way to create linetypes such as a fenceline like this
------------X---------X-----------?

Look under Design Menu and choose 'Fence Line'. You will be prompted for the spacing, but will need to set the size of your 'X' in the text menu. You can use any letter for your fence line if needed - use the 'Text Line' option under Design. You can correct the size of the text with 'TCORRECT' command and select all the 'fence lines' and change the font size there. Useful if you get things wrong and don't want to redraw the lines.

linetypes

Unfortunately, that type on linetype is not currently permitted in the program. Linetypes are a combination of dashes, spaces and dots only.

However, we do have 3 routines under the Design menu. FenceLine, TextLine and TreeLine. They actually draw short straight line segments with the apropriate text, etc. They may help you in what you are trying to do.
