Viewport drawing rotation

Postby Paul W » Wed Jan 07, 2004 6:10 am

Is there a way to rotate the drawing in the viewport in paper view so that north is not pointing to the top of the page.
I have tried the surveyer view, the drawing is rotated in the drawing area but returns to the world view in the paper are.

Layout Mode

Postby Glen Cameron » Wed Jan 07, 2004 6:44 am

Yes there is a way to do it.

As you have already done, setup the Surveyors View to get what you desire. Then run the VIEW command and save the view of the screen to a named view.

Now you can switch to Layout Mode and create a viewport. Then run the viewport command again and pick the View option from the option bar. Select the viewport to edit - then on the option bar pick on the NVIEW button. Select the saved View and Show it. Then when you are done hte viewport should retain the named view which you had saved in the orientation desired.

rotate paper space

Postby Vincent Popish » Wed Jan 07, 2004 8:01 am

There is another way:
In paper space select view port control botton,
Select layout viewport you want to rotate,
select viewpoint button,
select rotate button, then at first prompt type in rotation you want such as 90. then just enter for next.
The nice thing about this way is you can have several different rotations in paperspace with different viewports and your model space is still north towards the top.

Sorry, Vince, I'm not following you.

Which is the "view port control botton"? and exactly how do you rotate the viewport?

Vieport Rotation

Postby Glen Cameron » Thu Jan 08, 2004 6:52 am

Once you have switched to Layout Mode, and have created a viewport.
Run the Viewport command again - (Layout Viewport Control) - Pick on the View button on the option bar and select the viewport to modify.

Then on the option bar pick the button Viewpoint - then on the command line you will see Viewpoint (x,y,z): and on the option bar you would pick the Rotate button.

It will prompt you: Theta angle (Rotation angle in XY plane) <0.0>: at this point type in the rotation you desire - then press enter.

The next prompt will read: Phi angle (Rotation angle to XY plane) <0.0>: at this point just press enter. There you have it, a rotated viewport.

Thanks, Glen! Boy, the stuff i learn on this board... Used the command on a job I was drafting this week. Works great - even better than the Surveyor View trick.
