3D polyline to 2D

Post by Scott Partridge » Mon Oct 04, 2004 10:49 am

I want to slect a polyline and change it from a 3D object to a 2D object. Is there a simple way to accomplish this?

SCALEZ

Post by Glen Cameron » Mon Oct 04, 2004 11:03 am

We do have the SCALEZ command that will convert a line or polyline from the elevations drawn to zero - just use a scale factor of zero (0) when asked. It does not change the type of entity so if it was knwon as a 3D polyline, it will still be a 3D polyline just drawn flat at zero elevation now.

There is a technote on this topic at this link: http://www.microsurvey.com/support/shar ... scalez.htm

Thanks Glen. I knew about SCALEZ - it works fine... I was looking for a tool to physically change the 3D polyline to a 2D polyline.

3dpoly to 2dpoy

Post by Vincent Popish » Mon Oct 04, 2004 12:11 pm

Hi:
Under Msmodeling goto utilities, polyline utilities, make 2d poly. It will create a 2dpolyline from a 3dpolyline.
Thanks,

3D to 2D pline

Post by Glen Cameron » Mon Oct 04, 2004 6:38 pm

The command MK2DPOLY will draw a new 2D polyline over the original 3D polyline but it does not convert or delete the original. So this could be used to draw the new polyline then you erase the original one.

That might help - Thanks Vincent.

3D to 2D

Not sure if this is command you're looking for
3D_2D
Select the lines you want to change elevation to zero ...
It's under MsTools/ Lines.
regards
Richard

3D

Hi Richard,
That command only works on lines in our database to be able to convert to 3D (or the other way round). Other lines and polylines will not be affected.

if you want to just convert 3d lines to 2d lines tryusing the command "Convert3D line to 2D" found under Microsurvey>Points\Lines\Curves
