printing to a file

Plot files are saved by the printer driver. In other words, when you first install the driver for your printer/plotter, you have to tell it which port you are printing to (LTP1, COM1, etc.). As an alternative, you can also choose to print to a file, at this location in the driver.

So when you install the driver, you tell it to print to a file. Then in MSCAD you use this driver and specify the portion of the drawing to print - you will then be asked for a file name.

The file is typically a windows PRN file. If you require a PLT format, then the only option that may work is to install a print driver that supports HP/GL2 language, then rename the PRN file to PLT.
