CAD 2005 & CAD 2004

Post by Michael O'Connor » Thu Jun 09, 2005 10:42 am

I'm ready to install CAD2005, yet I want to keep CAD2004 active until I'm comfortable with my navigation within CAD2005. Beacuse of production issues, I do not want to abandon the product that I am proficient with.
Are there any conflicts with both operating on the same system?
Will there be any damage done to CAD2005 when I uninstall CAD2004?
Will CAD2004 correctly open a .dwg created in CAD2005?

transitioning from 2004 to 2005

I actually have MSCAD2001, 2002, 2004 and 2005 on my system and all run independant of each other in their own folders.

If you use something like an AutoMAP library from an older verion in the new version - make a copy of it so the old program can use the original and the new one the new copy as it will be slightly different. As long as nothing references the old program, when you uninstall it nothing will happen to the new one.

If you save a DWG in 2005 and open it in 2004 - it should work the same. I do it here all the time. The database file (MSD) is the same for 2004 and 2005.

You are welcome to keep 2004 on your system for as long as the transition takes to 2005.
