Grid Orientation

Postby carl » Fri Jul 15, 2005 12:11 pm

I have a client that has asked me to create a plan that shows a grid with spot elevs at all the intersections. (ie a 5m grid).

When I create the 5m grid from an existing surface and show it onscreen it seems as if the location of the grid is created at random.

Is there any way to create my grid with one of my cell corners at a specific spot, and better yet, have my grid square to a specific line or bearing?

The GRID from a surface can not be set to orient to a specific direction. It is always based upon North. You can set the starting point (Grid Registration) by going to the MsModelling menu -> Configuration Settings -> Grids -> Grid Registration.

Your other option would be to draw a CAD Point at the location you require - then use the Rectangular Array to draw them in a grid - rotate them to the desired orientation - then DRAPE them onto the surface.

Thanks Glen for the speedy reply.

I rotated my reference line to North, shifted my starting point to 0,0, followed your instructions and presto, just what I wanted.
