XREF DWG,S

I,m not understanding the whole concept of what a XREF DWG is and or how to convert an XREF into a regular or workable drawing.

Xref

I assume you are comfortable with the INSERT command and how it can bring 1 drawing into another. Well the Xref does the same thing BUT, whereas the inserted drawing is a snapshot in time and will not change even if the original drawing is changed - the Xref drawing is always live and connected to the original drawing. So if the original drawing is updated, the next time you open this current drawing, it will show the updates in the other one, automatically.

To sever this link you would need to BIND the xref to the current drawing - which essentially changes it to an inserted drawing at that time using the current state of the other drawing.

While a drawing is xref'ed into the current drawing, it is of little use and not much can be done with it for surveying purposes. Once you BIND it then it becomes a permanent part of the current drawing and you can then explode it to work with it easier.

In MSCAD the xref command is XLINK.

Cheers,
