MSCad 2002 Freezing up problem...

Post by pcguru » Wed Sep 01, 2004 8:24 am

Hi all,

I am a computer consultnat. I just recently got a new client that has two PC's running MicroSurvey Cad 2002.

They are both having a similar problem.

At seemingly random times, the program (MSCad2002 SP4) will just freeze. They have let it sit for over an hour with no change. The only way to close the program is to CTRL-ALT-DEL and "End Task" it. They normally only work in one drawing at a time.

The PC's are both Pentium 4 2.6 GHz PC's with Intel motherboards, 1 GB RAM (two 512MB DDR), nVidia GeForce FX 5200 Video cards with 128 MB RAM, 80 GB ATA100 IDE hard Drives, 52X CDROM Drives (IDE) with onboard sound and 3COM Gigabit NICs. The program is installed on the C-Drive. Most, if not all of the drawing files are accesses over a Windows 2000 Server based network. The PC's are running Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 1a and all current Windows Updates other then SP2. (We didn't want to possibly make the problem worse by adding SP2)

I have cleaned up both PC's (removed temp & junk files and such), checked for viruses (clean), checked for adware/spyware (found some minor junk in the Temp Internet files folder), done full scan disks, done defrag. Updated all possible hardware drivers including the latest available from nVidia.

All, to no avail. Everything seems to be working as it should. The only other possible info is that one of the PC's freezes up more frequently then the other.

Not sure what to do next.

Thanks in advance!

lock ups

Post by Vincent Popish » Wed Sep 01, 2004 8:42 am

The only suggestion I would give is look at thier screen saver, disable all of them and see if that helps. There are some of them that will cause programs to lock up.
Hope it helps,
