template design for curb and gutter

Postby Neal McAllister » Mon Mar 19, 2007 12:57 pm

One of the surveyors in the office just returned from a confrence in St. Louis. Had just seen some software there that if we were to take back of curb shots, we could create an attribute that would then define the flow line of the curb, generate line work and enter data into surface for better modeling of existing road ways without the additional field work of shooting back-of-curb, front-of-curb and flowline of curb. Obviously this only works if there are no irregularites in the curb line, as you are essentially creating a general cross section to apply to all your back-of-curb shots. Just wondering if anybody knows if anything like this exists in MSCadd 2005?

kerb template

You could always join the back of kerb points with a 3D polyline then ofset that string the relevant dimensions to give an approximate fit for the entire kerb. As said though one needs a constant relationship between back and front of kerb, but then one also has to consider what its for. I'd be looking at which part of kerb is the defining factor in any subsequent design work that will hang off the survey. If its the front, then I'd join those points and work the other way.
