Text in 2008 vs 2005

Postby knoxtech » Tue Feb 05, 2008 6:44 am

What do I need to do to keep the text the same in 2008? When I open an existing drawing that was done in 2005 the text is longer in 2008.

What do you mean by "longer" in 2008 than 2005? Is it a different font size? Is more text added? Is the text wider?

I have plenty of text in maps created in MSCA 2005 that I've opened with MSCAD2008 and have seen no difference in text size, volum or width in any of those drawings.

You might need to share a few example files.

Check the font in use. I have seen some older fonts that have been updated over time and the newer definition is now not the same. So the fonts could have slightly different widths. One such font I found is the original SIMPLEX.SHX font compared to the one shipping today - they are slightly different. Check the font from both programs, checking the date and size.

If this is the case, you have to decide which font definition you wish to use, and esure that you copy that SHX file to all required locations in all programs. Keep in mind that if you send this DWG out to another location not using the same font - the problem will rear it's ugly head again. It is ussually better to use the most current font, for this reason.

Thank you for the information, to explain farther, I have drawings done in MSCad2005 using the standard font, when I open them in MSCad2008 the lines of text are longer and when in a box it extends out of the box. I use these drawings as a template for new drawings. Am I going to have to change the font size in 2008 so they are right or is there a setting to change so that I don't have to redo the drawings that I open in 2008 that were created in 2005.

You will have to ensure the same font is used in 2008 as was used in 2005 OR redo the template to use the new fonts in 2008.

FONT SIZES

Postby Richard Sands » Wed Feb 06, 2008 6:17 pm

Did you have any 'Text styles' that were in 2005? Notsure if thats affecting this? Ie standard fonts but with a different setting to standard? But then I thought they go with the drawing.

Copy the fonts from 2005 into the fonts folder in 2008 worked for me.
