Coordinate list rotation

Post by Ed Gasbarre » Mon Sep 22, 2003 12:02 pm

FieldGenius requires the input of a rotation angle in order to rotate the current coordinate list. Sometimes, with the absence of a calculator, this is a messy problem. Is there a way to specify rotation based on existing points? For example 1..2-6..3.

Rotating Points

Under the PNT menu -> Rotate/Scale/Shift Points -> under the Rotate/Scale tab -> in the Rotation field. If you type in 1..2..3 in the field, it will calculate the angle from 1 to 2 to 3 and when you go to the next field down, it will calculate the angle and enter it into the field.

Hi Ed,

Glen's note is correct if you're calculating the interior angle of two intersecting lines. I think you're asking how to subtract the direction of two line that don't intersect. All you need to do is in the rotation field type 1..2 - 6..3. *****Make sure to put a space before and after the negative sign*****

This will compute an angle, bearing 1 to 2 minus bearing 6 to 3.
