Question:
Will FieldGenius work with my existing data collector?
Answer: If your data collector is a Windows CE device,
FieldGenius may be compatible. If you are using a data
collector such as an HP48 or an SDR 33, FieldGenius will
not work. It requires Microsoft Windows CE to operate.
Question:
What hardware devices does MicroSurvey FieldGenius run
on?
Answer: MicroSurvey supports more hardware devices than
any of our major competitors. Currently, FieldGenius
will operate on the following hardware devices: Allegro CX, Archer Field PC, Compaq
iPAQ 3600, 3700,3800,3900 and 5000 series, HP iPAQ 2210/2215/4300,
Dell Axiom, (and other Pocket PC with a Compact Flash
slot), Panasonic Toughbook 01, Symbol PDT
8100, TDS Ranger, TDS RECON, Husky FS4, DAP Microflex
5240, Juniper Systems Allegro CE, and the MicroSurvey Tracker.
Question:
Does FieldGenius have roading capabilities?
Answer: Yes. FieldGenius has the best
alignment and template import, staking
and export in the surveying industry. Import
Points, Alignments, Profiles, and Cross Sections,
and more from your design application using our LandXML
import options.
All of the staking routines have a graphical interface
that helps the user navigate to the correct location.
FieldGenius supports all the staking routines displayed
below:
1. Choose the alignment, station and cross sectional surface
and point
2. Choose the alignment, station, offset and DTM surface
(or interval)
3. Slope Staking
View all your Alignment data in 3D – Work from a
perspective 3D view if desired.
Question:
How do I get information from my desktop application
into FieldGenius?
Answer: FieldGenius contains DXF file support and
an XML reader with support for points, lines, arcs,
spirals, parcels, surfaces, horizontal alignments,
vertical alignments, templates, and cross sections.
LandXML is a common, open data format, or schema,
that describes industry-specific data such as points,
parcels, and alignments. Land development professionals
worldwide can use LandXML to make the data they create
more readily accessible and available to anyone involved
with a project.
Data can go directly from Land Development Desktop,
CAiCE Visual PE, Bentley inRoads, Eagle Point,
Trimble TerraModel, or any other software that supports
the LandXML schema to FieldGenius without the need
for converting your data. As a result, data can be
efficiently transferred and be made readily accessible
for your project. By utilizing LandXML as our internal
data format, FieldGenius not only provides interoperability
between different application software, but also between
varying versions of that software.
DXF files that are opened in FieldGenius can be manipulated
by turning on and off layers so you can control the
view. Many different types of entities in a DXF
file can be automatically coordinated and added to the
points database. Lines, polylines, and arcs can be added
to the figures database, so you can stake them too!
Question:
How do I get information from FieldGenius into
my desktop application?
Answer: FieldGenius includes several different methods
of transferring data to your desktop software.
First, you can use MicroSurvey CAD Basic to create
DXF, DWG, or DGN files. DWG and DXF files can
contain Point Blocks for LDD, Carlson, or Eagle Point
software. Second, raw data in FieldGenius
is stored in TDS RAW format. Third,
coordinate files can be created in normal comma delimited
ASCII files. FieldGenius also writes out a
DXF file of the connectivity from the graphics screen.
If you are using Softdesk or Autodesk Land Development
Desktop, FieldGenius can export a FieldBook
File (FBK). This allows you to simply grab the FBK
file and import it directly into your software. No
conversions are necessary. The FBK support includes
all the coordinates measured,
and all the line work generated in FieldGenius.
Finally FieldGenius can now
write out LandXML files containing all the information
collected in your survey.
Question:
Does FieldGenius support total stations, robotic total
stations and GPS?
Answer: Yes. MicroSurvey supports virtually
all conventional total stations dating back to the early
90s. FieldGenius has built-in support for all major manufacturers'
robotic total stations and RTK grade GPS systems. MicroSurvey’s robotic and GPS support has
the most intuitive interface in the industry. All robotic
and GPS settings and functions are easily accessible from
a control toolbar.
Question:
Can I import a CAD drawing into my FieldGenius project?
Answer: Yes. Use the DXF import option to import your
CAD drawing. This is a great way to prepare for a trip
to the field. With FieldGenius your drawing will appear
with more detail than other data collectors. Our drawing
import shows blocks, text, polylines, lines, arcs, points,
surfaces, and more! FieldGenius allows you to turn on
and off layers in the CAD drawing to make it easier to
see the information that is important to you. Selected
objects in the CAD drawing can be automatically coordinated
for staking, setup, back sighting or anything else that
you wish.
Question:
Does FieldGenius support slope staking?
Answer: Yes. MicroSurvey FieldGenius allows you to
work with an existing cross sectional template to stake
the intersection of the template and the existing ground.
Question:
Can I adjust my survey data in FieldGenius ?
Answer: Yes. Currently MicroSurvey FieldGenius will allow
you to edit your raw data, re-coordinate, compute a closure
on your traverse, do an angular adjustment and a Compass
balance.
How much does FieldGenius cost?
Answer: The software costs just US$995.00 for the Standard module. Extra modules
are available to run robotic,
gps equipment or to do sophisticated staking, surfacing,
volumes or contours.
