64-bit Version - STAR*NET 9 is now available in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. The 64-bit version can access more memory and execute faster than the 32-bit version.


Integrated Data Editor: Command Autocompletion - The integrated data editor has been enhanced with an auto-completion feature for inline options. It will determine what command you are starting to type and let you select the applicable keywords for that command. This makes it easy to manually add or modify inline options into your data files. This behaviour can be toggled on (default) or off by the new Command Autocompletion option in the Editor Options dialog.

Integrated Data Editor: Command Help Tips - The integrated data editor has been enhanced with inline help tips for data lines and inline options, which makes it easy to manually modify your data files without having to remember specific syntax or cross-referencing the help files. Help text describing the command syntax will appear when you select any valid data line, and various other optional details can be added to the Help Tips in the Editor Options dialog. Complete documentation is available by pressing F1 when any Help Tip is displayed, to open the appropriate context-sensitive Help File. This behaviour can be toggled on (default) or off, made floating (default) or inline, and Command Help Tips options in the Editor Options dialog.

Integrated Data Editor: Inline Error Messages - The integrated data editor has been enhanced with inline error messages that are displayed where an adjustment error occurs. This makes it easy to manually locate and fix syntax errors in your data files when running an adjustment. Press F2 and Shift-F2 to jump to the next or previous error just like other bookmarks in the data files. All Error and Warning messages are still also displayed in the Error Log, and you can click on an error message in the Error Log to jump to the location of that error in the data files. This behaviour can be toggled on (default) or off by the new Error Annotations option in the Editor Options dialog.

Integrated Data Editor: Find Tips - Finding text (Edit>Find or Ctrl-F) in your input data file highlights and bookmarks all Find Results making it easier to locate visually and jump between. Advanced Find (clicking on a station name) now also works from the Data Files, bookmarks all matching Find Results, and centers the network plot on that same station.

Integrated Data Editor: Column Editing - The integrated data editor has been enhanced with column editing capabilities like other advanced text editor programs. Hold down the "Alt" key while dragging your cursor to select columns of text and/or to make the cursor span multiple rows. Column editing makes it easy to delete or overwrite horizontally aligned blocks text that spans multiple rows of data, for example changing or inserting a target height that appears in several consecutive lines.

Adjust Network with Cluster Detection - A new adjustment method that lets you combine observations that are stored with different point identifiers and treat them as a single point during adjustment, based on their proximity within a specified 2D or 3D tolerance.

Adjusted Observations and Residuals - The listing file now reports an effective distance value along with any angular residuals in the "Adjusted Observations and Residuals" section, including Angles, Zeniths and Directions, making it easier to interpret the angular residuals and identify possible issues like an incorrect target height and other problems.

Network Adjusted Speed - Network adjustments run much faster than in previous versions.


Select Ellipsoid - A new adjustment option for grid projects that lets you specify whether to use the ellipsoid as defined by the project’s coordinate system (like in STAR*NET V6/V7) or to use WGS84 (like in STAR*NET 8.0/8.1) for all geodetic input and output values including latitude/longitude positions and ellipsoid heights such as P/PH/CH/EH records, the geodetic position (.pos) file, and the listing (.lst) file.

Data Conversion and GPS Vector Import - Many improvements to several of the data conversion utilities and GPS vector importers improve the compatibility with FieldGenius, Leica, Carlson, Trimble, TDS, and other data collectors.

Network Plot - All network plot display options are now customizable in an intuitive grid-view. Control the visibility, color, linetype, and size of each network element to graphically differentiate conventional, GPS, and Leveling observations. Directional arrowheads indicate both the direction and number of observations between two stations. Zoom and pan in the network plot view using smooth, intuitive mouse controls.

.PRISM Command - A new ".PRISM" inline option lets you apply a correction for measurements that were collected with an incorrect prism offset setting, without having to make potentially thousands of tedious calculations and manual edits.

Google Maps™ Support - View your network stations in Google Maps by clicking the Map button located in the Find Point dialog. (Compatible with Grid projects only.)

Level Loop Tolerance Check - Instantly verify whether or not the vertical misclosure of your level loops or traverses fall within maximum allowable tolerances, based on its total length and a selected standard of accuracy like NGS Second Order Class II, NRCan First Order, etc.

Online Updater - Stay current with the latest STAR*NET updates and maximize your return on investment. Check for updates at any time, or use the configurable automatic updater to notify you when an update is available.

File References - An index column has been added to the Data Input Files Panel, corresponding to the File:Line references in the Listing file, and double-clicking on a : character in the Listing file will now take you directly to the corresponding data file and line number in the Editor.

Data File Monitor - Data Editor now monitors for any changes that are made by an external program to a loaded data file, and will prompt to reload it from disk. Data Editor now immediately updates when a loaded data file is changed by Overwriting or Appending to it with the GPS Importer.

Conversion Utilities - Direct access to all conversion utilities has been added within STAR*NET via the Import menu. Help buttons have been added to all conversion utilities for direct access to the relevant help topic.

MicroSurvey FieldGenius Support - The STAR*FieldGenius conversion utility and the FieldGenius GPS importer will now convert OB records (COGO measurements) from the raw file as BM (Bearing Measurement) records. FieldGenius GPS importer will now read GPS Offset measurements from the raw file, and export new G4 data records to define the offset from the rover's measured position to the actual point. FieldGenius GPS importer will now handle scenarios where the base receiver is moved midway through the raw file without connecting to it to define the base point ID, it is now more tolerant of corrupt data such as latitude/longitude values of exactly zero, and it will ensure that any vectors imported without a defined base point ID will construct a unique point ID.

Carlson SurvCE Support - The STAR*Carlson conversion utility can average shots in multiple sets, and it can convert resection observations as direction sets. The Carlson GPS importer can now import point descriptions with each vector.

Leica DBX Support - The STAR*Leica DBX conversion utility can now export All set observations or average set observations for any sets collected with either the Sets of Angles or Traverse applications, it can export stakeout observations as measurement records, and it can export checkshot deltas as comment records.

CS-Map Coordinate System Engine - STAR*NET 8 includes over 3800 predefined coordinate systems worldwide, plus a new custom coordinate system editor which supports datum transformation and projection types not previously supported.

Geoid Modeling - STAR*NET 8 includes direct support for selecting .bin or .byn geoid models published by national agencies like the United States National Geodetic Survey and Natural Resources Canada, without requiring conversion to .ght format using the free STAR*Geoid utility.  This includes Canada’s newer .byn format for geoids like HT2.0.

Leica DBX Conversion Utility - The STAR*Leica DBX conversion utility has several improvements, including the ability to convert Resection data, and to convert Sets of Angles data using either the average of each set (as before) or using all shots.

Network Plot Imagery - Enhance your network plot with georeferenced raster images and other data files, using local files or online sources. Over 150 supported file formats including Raster Images, DWG/DXF Drawings, Shapefiles, MrSID, LiDAR, GeoPDF, GeoTIFF, Microstation DGN, ASCII Coordinates, ESRI, ERDAS, Garmin, KML, COLLADA, Sketchup, and many many many more.  Stream online imagery from any WMS (Web Map Service), WCS (Web Coverage Service), OSM (OpenStreetMap Tiles), Google Maps Tiles, or TMS (Tile Map Service) source.

Multilanguage Translations - STAR*NET can now be translated into any language, and STAR*NET dealers and users across the globe are already hard at work translating the program. Please contact MicroSurvey Software Inc for information on specific languages, or to help translate STAR*NET into your language.  STAR*NET and all of the conversion utilities are now Unicode compatible to support non-latin character sets. An option to encode all input and output files as either ANSI or Unicode is available in the new Language Selection dialog.  Spanish, Russian, and Chinese Traditional versions of STAR*NET are now available.

Multilanguage Translations - Spanish, Russian, and Chinese Traditional versions of STAR*NET are now available.

Fully Functional Demo - A fully-functional 10-day demo period has been added, during which you can run the fully-featured STAR*NET-PRO edition plus all of the STAR*NET data conversion utilities.  After 10 days, you can continue to run the feature-limited STAR*NET-DEMO edition, which has all the capabilities of STAR*NET-PRO but is limited to an adjustment of 10 stations, 100 observations, and 15 GPS vectors.

Leica DBX Conversion Utility - A new standalone Leica DBX conversion utility (licensed separately) is now available for importing both conventional and/or GPS data from Leica DBX databases. Several fixes have been implemented since STAR*LeicaDBX v7.2.0.12 which was previously available as a zip download from our website, see details below.

NGS OPUS-RS Report Support - The OPUS report importer now also works with OPUS-RS (Rapid Static) reports.

Trimble JobXML Vector Importer - GPS Vectors can now be imported from Trimble JobXML (*.jxl) data files, via the Vector Importer command directly within STAR*NET Pro.

Trimble JobXML Conversion Utility - A new standalone STAR*JobXML conversion utility (licensed separately) is now available for importing both conventional and/or GPS data from Trimble JobXML (*.jxl) data files.

Integrated Data Editor - STAR*NET 7 has a fully integrated data editor, which offers customizable syntax highlighting (colors/fonts), bookmarking and jumping to bookmarked lines, and no more need for an external text editor like notepad (although that's still an available option).

Customizable Interface - STAR*NET 7 has a brand-new interface which is highly customizable to suit your specific workflow or preferences - move and resize panels, collapse and expand panels, stack panels into a tabbed interface, dock panels into the main interface or leave them floating, customize the toolbars and menus, use small or large toolbar icons, and more!

Find Point - An advanced Find Point tool allows you to quickly locate and jump to any references of a specific point ID in any of your input data files, by simply double-clicking a point name in any of your output files (Listing, Coordinates, Ground, Lat/Long, Error Log, Dump, etc). No more pouring through thousands of lines of data codes looking for references to a specific point, a simple double-click now does all this eye-straining work for you!

Differential Levelling Loop Closure Check - Quickly detect loop closure errors in your level networks using the new Level Loop Check command found in the Run menu. This is a powerful blunder detection tool for leveling data!

Point Aliasing - A new ".ALIAS" inline option is available which you can use to define point aliases by explicitly naming the aliases, or by specifying a prefix, suffix, or additive number to define an aliasing scheme that corresponds with your field procedures. A point can then be aliased by one or more points with non-unique point names that get translated to another point name. Note, aliased points are not currently identified by the new Find Point tool.

Lost Stations - A new ".LOSTSTATIONS" inline option is available to identify points which are no longer physically available, lost stations will be included in the network processing but can be left off of the resulting plot if desired.

GPS Sideshots - Two new ".GPS NETWORK" and ".GPS SIDESHOT" inline options can be inserted prior to any G1 vector records to define the following vectors either as part of the network or as sideshot type records that are processed after the network has been adjusted so they do not affect the network solution.

GPS Antenna Height Corrections - A new ".GPS AddHiHt [HI] [HT]" inline option is available to specify or correct GPS base and rover antenna height blunders.

Project Manager - A new Project Manager is now available for quickly opening and creating projects.

Template Data File - A new template mechanism allows you to customize a template data file that is automatically added to new projects, for example you can now automatically include coordinate records for your local control network, etc.

2D GPS Adjustments - 2D Adjustments of GPS Data is now possible.

EGM2008 Geoid Support - The STAR*Geoid extraction utility can now extract data from the EGM2008 geoid for creating STAR*NET-compatible geoid and vertical deflection model files.

NGS OPUS Report Support - An importer for reading vector data from NGS OPUS Reports into STAR*NET .gps data files is now available in the GPS Vector Importer.

MicroSurvey FieldGenius Support - A conversion utility for converting MicroSurvey FieldGenius data collection software .raw files to STAR*NET .dat files.

MicroSurvey FieldGenius Support - An importer for reading vector data from MicroSurvey FieldGenius data collection software .raw files into STAR*NET .dat data files is now available in the GPS Vector Importer.

Long Point Name support – A new "Full Point Names" option in the Listing File Options screen prevents long point names from being cut off at 10-characters. This replaces the previously undocumented .LNAMES inline option available in STAR*NET 6.

Quick File References – A new "Quick File References" option in the Listing File Options screen allows you to display references to the first occurrence of a file and line number referencing each point. This replaces the undocumented .QFILEREF inline option available in STAR*NET 6.

Redefinable Fixed StdErr Constants - A new "Fixed StdErr" option group in the General Options screen allows you to to redefine the StdErr used when something is defined as "Fixed", previously it was hard coded to 1E-7m or 1.0001E-3 seconds but in rare occasions this had to be loosened to allow certain networks to process. This replaces the undocumented .QFIX inline option available in STAR*NET 6.
