:: The Top Ten Questions About STAR*NET

Question: Why did MicroSurvey acquire the STAR*NET system?

Answer: Many MicroSurvey customers own STAR*NET, and they have told us through the years what a great package it is to use. Two ex-MicroSurvey product managers who went on to own their own surveying companies have also told us it is a great package. It seemed like a logical addition to our software programs.
Question: What are the plans for STAR*NET in the future?

Answer: The program has been a success because it does such a good job of performing logically and simply for its customers. MicroSurvey will speak to customers to find out what features they would like to see added, plus we will investigate changes in the program where we have a good deal of expertise.
Question: Is this product stand alone or do I need other software to run STAR*NET?

Answer: MicroSurvey STAR*NET will continue to be sold as a stand alone product. All of the converters that were marketed to import files from Carlson, TDS, Trimble, Leica, Topcon, Zeiss and more will continue to be improved for the product.
Question: What about my existing copies of STAR*NET?

Answer: The final version distributed by Starplus Software, Inc. was version 6.0.36. We have the 6.0.38 source code, and are going to release the program initially under 6.0.39. This version has minor changes to the copyright notice and it now supports our USB key. Our protection system is very flexible as the same key can be used to hold multiple licenses of STAR*NET in various versions. These can be used across your network for a small additional fee.
Question: When will the next major release of STAR*NET appear?

Answer: There are some known issues with running STAR*NET under Windows 7. We will address these issues as quickly as possible and are aiming for a Version 7 release before the end of 2010. There will be a 7.5 version that many other features added in 2011. This partially depends on the wishes of the STAR*NET customers.
***UPDATE 1 December 20th, 2010*** - MicroSurvey has released which is now improved to operate correctly under Windows 7 and Vista.
***UPDATE 2 May 9th, 2014*** - We are already working on a STAR*NET 8.1 update which will add additional new functionality that has been requested by STAR*NET users through our online feature request forum. RELEASED.
Question: How do I get technical support?

Answer: MicroSurvey has an extensive help desk, and makes movies that explain how to use the software. We will be making a number of movies about how to use STAR*NET as our staff gets more experience with the program. MicroSurvey bundles technical support with version upgrades in the form of yearly annual maintenance. The revenue from this is used to write software improvements.
Question: How long does it take to learn STAR*NET?

Answer: STAR*NET includes a detailed manual that explains all the program inputs. There are extensive example files and several tutorials. The program includes on-line help that is linked from the dialogs containing the program settings.
Question: How much does all this cost?

Answer: STAR*NET is available in 4 different versions starting with basic differential leveling (Lev), standard total station measurements (Standard), total station plus leveling (Plus), and total station with GPS measurements (Pro). The PRO version allows you to mix conventional total station measurements with GPS measurements in one adjustment. Click on Pricing in the menu to the left.
