Software Developer

MicroSurvey Software Inc. develops and markets a family of specialized computer software for Land Surveyors, Civil Engineers, Mapping Professionals, Police Officers, and Accident Reconstruction Specialists. As an experienced Software Developer, you will bring expertise and technical leadership skills to our team.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop multi-platform software solutions using C/C++ in accordance with requirements and design.
  • Develop and maintain unit test cases.
  • Support existing products through defect investigation, resolution, and testing.
  • Work closely with product managers, support, and test team to take new product ideas from concept to delivery.
  • Provide technical expertise to support team on critical customer issues.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3+ years of software development experience
  • Strong programming skills in C/C++
  • Strong background in object-oriented programming (OOP)
  • Experience with at least one scripting language
  • Excellent debugging and testing skills
  • Strong mathematical background
  • Results-driven and strong ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Supplementary Qualifications

As part of a small development team, various supplementary technical qualifications will also be considered an asset, including:

  • Android/iOS development experience
  • Web development experience
  • Knowledgeable in geomatics and geodesy
  • Basic knowledge in surveying, GIS, construction, or forensics fields
  • Familiarity with GNSS systems and Total Stations
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar programs
  • MFC programming experience
  • Experience working with Agile Methodologies

Training and guidance will be provided for the specialized technical aspects of the position, therefore a willingness to learn, attitude, and natural intellect will be just as important as existing skill.

Product Manager – Mobile Products

Overview

The Mobile Product Manager manages our mobile data collection products including MicroSurvey FieldGenius, MicroSurvey Layout, Evidence Recorder and our Field Hardware Solutions You will be responsible for product planning and execution throughout the product lifecycle, including: gathering and prioritizing product and customer requirements, defining the product vision, and working closely with development, sales, marketing and support to ensure revenue and customer satisfaction goals are met. The Product Manager’s job also includes ensuring that the product supports the company’s overall strategy and goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Gather product and feature product requirements and complete release planning.
  • Create use cases, define requirements and prioritize software features and bug fixes.
  • Manage the complete product lifecycle, from strategic planning through implementation, testing and launch.
  • Create business cases including a financial analysis for major product enhancements and new product development to management for a go / no go decision on product development.
  • Run beta and pilot programs with early-stage products and samples
  • Be an expert with respect to the competition.
  • Monitor social media and other outlets for competitive and strategic information
  • Identify new vertical market opportunities.
  • Provide training and leadership to internal teams and customers
  • Significant customer engagement such as management and involvement in customer user forums and conferences.
  • In conjunction with the Development Manager, manage the timing and content of software releases in order to maximize business value.
  • Develop and track metrics of product performance to allow objective measures of a product to be used in supporting further developments / business cases.
  • Perform market, competitive, and customer research to understand customer needs, opportunities, and similar product offerings in the market and their advantages and disadvantages.
  • Manage key external partner relationships critical to the product strategy and success.
  • Keep up to date with existing and planned product offerings and changes in the market that may affect current products and future opportunities in order to position current and future products.
  • Proficiently use the company’s processes for managing software releases.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Engineering degree, or Technology Diploma.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a Product Manager.
  • Ability to understand that products must ship on schedule and that sometimes “good enough” is good enough.

Preference will be given to candidates with some or all of the following skills or experience

  • 2+ years of job experience in the Land Surveying or Civil Engineering market.
  • Experience working closely with development teams and managing developers.
  • Experience building products for the Land Surveying or Civil Engineering markets.
  • Experience in the following markets an asset, but not required: BIM, Construction or Accident Reconstruction.
  • Good understanding of Agile development.
  • CAD experience such as AutoCAD or IntelliCAD.
  • GNSS, Total Station, and Robotic Total Station experience.
  • Laser Scanning experience.

MicroSurvey Software Technical Support

MicroSurvey is currently seeking additional Technical Support personnel. This position will consist of some of the following:

  • Solve technical issues with customers on the phone.
  • Help customers learn MicroSurvey Software programs
  • Assist sales staff with technical questions.
  • Test new software releases.
  • Create technical support notes.
  • Maintain notes in contact management software.
  • Assist with the development of training manuals and help systems.
  • Travel to trade shows to demonstrate software.

Qualifications and expectations:

  • Experience running AutoCAD.
  • Must have a diploma in Surveying Technology or Civil Engineering Technology.
  • Must have at least 2 years of surveying field experience.
  • Must have experience calculating from surveying notes.
  • Must have experience with electronic field equipment (total stations).
  • Must reside in Canada to apply.
  • Must be experienced with MS Office.
  • Must have excellent communication skills - both written and verbal.
  • Must be experienced with Windows and general PC computer operation.
  • Experience with GPS equipment is an asset.
  • Experience with MicroSurvey products is, of course, a great benefit.
  • Some travel to the USA and within Canada is required - must be able to enter the USA.
